MODENA seal fourth straight victory in Pool A
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women
Baku, Azerbaijan, February 8, 2017. Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA added another chapter to their success story in Pool A of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women by rallying to a fourth straight victory in as many matches they have contested so far in the group – and actually, they have won eight in a row since their campaign started in the second round already. On Wednesday afternoon, MODENA beat Telekom BAKU 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22) to cement their leadership in Pool A and set their sights on a spot in the Playoffs 6.
Though they dropped one set at Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Centre, MODENA cruised to their second straight victory in matches with the young team from the Azerbaijani capital. Liu Jo Nordmeccanica pressured their opponent from the start of the match and this resulted in a quite comfortable 25-20 win in the first set. However, the young Azerbaijani team regrouped in the second set to claim a 25-23 victory and restore the balance in the match. The third set was a close affair, but MODENA could capitalise on their experience and quality to emerge victorious at 25-23. The fourth set was a close race as well, but Liu Jo Nordmeccanica had the upper hand again – making it 25-22 to seal their fourth straight victory in the pool.
Jovana Brakocevic Canzian top scored in the end for MODENA with 33 points as the team captain of Telekom, Yelyzaveta Samadova chipped in with 22 markers for the hosts.
