Dinamo MOSCOW claim lopsided Russian derby
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Moscow, Russia, January 25, 2017. In the so-called ‘Match of the Week’, Dinamo MOSCOW claimed a 3-2 victory (25-11, 21-25, 19-25, 25-11, 15-10) in the Russian derby with Dinamo KRASNODAR to celebrate their third straight victory in Pool B of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women.
Dinamo MOSCOW were on a class of their own in the first set – as Dinamo KRASNODAR struggled to find their rhythm with their starting setter Ekaterina Sinitsyna being ill and replaced by Svetlana Serbina. After cruising to a devastating 20-8 lead, Dinamo MOSCOW won the first set at a canter (25-11).
Before the start of the second set, Dinamo KRASNODAR head coach Konstantin Ushakov tried to make some changes to his team and his moves produced the desired results, especially with the help of Natalia Krotkova from the service line. Ekaterina Lyubushkina did well in that same aspect of the game for Dinamo MOSCOW but the hosts were not quite able to keep the pace of their opponent. Aleksandra Crncevic replaced Yana Shcherban in the ranks of the home team but that did not change much – and the set ended as Nataliya Goncharova spiked out of bounds for Dinamo MOSCOW.
The third set was another tough one for the Muscovites. Halfway through the set their reception collapsed down to a miserable 30% success rate – and even though Dinamo MOSCOW made some changes again, with Vetrova and Shcherban back in action, Dinamo KRASNODAR rallied to a 25-19 win.
The fourth set coincided with a dramatic change in the course of the match with Dinamo MOSCOW cruising to a 25-11 win as the match became truly one-sided. The tiebreak, on the other hand, was much closer. Irina Fetisova contributed to a 5-4 lead for Dinamo MOSCOW and the hosts followed this up with two blocks. Vetrova orchestrated Dinamo MOSCOW’s game in the best way and towards the end, Bethania de la Cruz scored time and again to propel the hosts to a 15-10 win.
Bethania de la Cruz (who top scored with 23 points) commented: “We should train better. We have had three tough matches and we have to iron things out, fix the mistakes we made and come back stronger than ever.”
