Easy run for TRENTINO in second matchup with Finland’s Hurrikaani

Trento, Italy, January 18, 2017. Italy’s standout TRENTINO Diatec cruised on Wednesday night to their second 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) in as many matches with Finland’s Hurrikaani LOIMAA to secure their progression to the 8th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. Though they ‘only’ needed to take two sets from the rematch with the Finns, TRENTINO remained focussed and determined to crown their performance with a victory, which coincides with their 22nd win in 29 matches they have contested this season so far.
Tine Urnaut was the best scorer for TRENTINO with 15 points (including three blocks and two aces, and a 67% success rate in attack), with Oleg Antonov finishing in double digits as well with 10 points and Matteo Burgsthaler contributing with three blocks. Antonov and Burgsthaler paid back head coach Lorenzetti for his decision to include their names in the starting six. TRENTINO’s game was well orchestrated by their star setter Simone Giannelli and the Italians scored as many as nine aces – with three courtesy of Antonov.
Hurrikaani LOIMAA did never pose a real threat to TRENTINO even though their star player Mikko Oivanen top scored in the match with 16 points.
In the next round TRENTINO will play another Finnish team, VaLePa SASTAMALA – the Finns claimed two 3-0 wins in their matchups with Danish national champions GENTOFTE Volley.
“We approached the match in the right way, quickly taking the two sets we needed to secure our progression to the next round,” said Angelo Lorenzetti at the end of the match. “We will now focus on our next match in the national league with Bunge RAVENNA as well as on the Final Four of the national cup with a boost of confidence, even though this evening we showed some problems that we are still struggling with. The match provided me with the opportunity to line up some players, who have not played much lately and they all responded very well. I'm happy because we have a long season ahead and as a result, everyone’s contribution is much needed.”
The journey of TRENTINO Diatec in the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men will continue in the round of sixteen with the first match with SASTAMALA taking place in early February (most probably on Wednesday, February 1 – date to be confirmed) in Finland and the return match following two weeks later at PalaTrento.
