TRENTINO need two sets to progress to CEV Cup 8th Finals
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Trento, Italy, January 17, 2017. Italy’s TRENTINO Diatec will contest their first European match at home this season on Wednesday night when hosting Finland’s Hurrikaani LOIMAA for the second round of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men 16th Finals, with the game starting at 20:30 local time.
After cruising to a 3-0 victory two weeks ago in Finland, TRENTINO need to take ‘only’ two sets from the rematch to progress to the next stage of the competition. “The first match we played in Loimaa went very well and it provided us with a boost of confidence ahead of the home game coming up on Wednesday,” said TRENTINO head coach Angelo Lorenzetti. “However, we still have one match to play and we have to approach this game with the right attitude, playing our best and using every opportunity we get to improve and grow as a team.”
Team captain Filippo Lanza (pictured) is very much likely to break the 2,000-point mark during this match as he has scored 1,993 in 225 official matches he has played with TRENTINO so far in his career.
If they make it to the next round, TRENTINO will play the eventual winners of the tie featuring Denmark’s national champions GENTOFTE Volley and Finland’s VaLePa SASTAMALA, with the Finns having an edge after their 3-0 home win from two weeks ago.
The matchup contested two weeks ago in Loimaa coincides with the only game ever played by TRENTINO against a Finnish opponent. TRENTINO have a record of 14 wins and 3 losses so far in the CEV Cup – they only lost to Halkbank ANKARA in 2005 and to Dinamo MOSCOW in 2015. The last European match TRENTINO have contested on home court dates to the 2016 CEV Volleyball Champions League Playoffs 6 fixture with Russia’s Belogorie BELGOROD from March 17, 2016, which ended in a 3-0 win for the Italians.
