BEVEREN delight home crowd to progress to Challenge Cup 8th Finals
2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women
Beveren, Belgium, January 12, 2017. Asterix Avo BEVEREN beat ASPTT MULHOUSE of France in the return match on schedule for the 16th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women (3-1; 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18), thus securing their progression to the next round as the Belgians had previously won the away match as well – and by the same score.
After their unexpected victory in Mulhouse, BEVEREN caught a flying start to their home match too but they knew that their opponent were ready to fight back and would try to play much better than they had done in the first leg. ASPTT MULHOUSE claimed an early lead, BEVEREN flipped the charts around but in the end, the visitors were able to emerge victorious 25-20. The second set was truly exciting with MULHOUSE again keeping the pace of the home team but the young players of Asterix responded with some great actions, thus levelling the count in the match. The fans passionately supported their favourite team and enjoyed a third set where BEVEREN led the way from start to end. As a result, BEVEREN secured their qualification to the next round of the competition. The coaches almost entirely changed their starting six in the fourth set, which was eventually won by Asterix Avo too.
In the next round of the competition, Asterix Avo BEVEREN will play Hungary’s Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup.
