LPR Volley PIACENZA celebrate home victory in CEV Cup opening round

Piacenza, Italy, December 8, 2016. The 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup started in the best way for Italy’s LPR Volley PIACENZA with the team coached by Alberto Giuliani claiming a 3-1 victory (26-24, 30-28, 21-25, 25-22) in their home matchup with Belarusian national champions Stroitel MINSK. Simone Parodi returned to the court after a long break due to injury as Cuban-born Fernando Hernandez top scored for the Italians with 29 points.
It was not an easy match for PIACENZA with Stroitel MINSK putting on a fight from start to end. PIACENZA responded with good serving, this resulting in as many as 11 aces, but Stroitel defended as much as they could with a solid block. More than two hours of play and much adrenaline were needed to determine the eventual winners of the match. In the fourth set everything seemed to be going just fine for PIACENZA before Stroitel fought back. Hernandez made the difference in the end on the way to top scoring with 29 points as PIACENZA stood out at serving (11 aces) to compensate for Stroitel’s impressive performance at blocking (15 stuffs).
