Foreign-born star players look forward to debut with PAOK THESSALONIKI
News from the clubs
Thessaloniki, Greece, November 10, 2016. PAOK THESSALONIKI recently made their debut in the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men and qualified to the third round after recording two tie-break victories over Croatia’s Mladost Ribola KAŠTELA.
The Greek national champions did so even though they were still missing two of their key players – Ernardo (Harry) Gomez and Dante Amaral. The Venezuelan Gomez and 2004 Olympic champion Amaral of Brazil are still side-lined by injuries but the fans of PAOK hope they will soon be able to perform on court. The now 36-year-old Amaral has returned to Greece after spending three seasons with Panathinaikos ATHENS back in 2005-2008.
As PAOK claimed a compelling 3-0 victory over Iraklis HALKIDA in the Hellenic national league, Gomez and Amaral were both in attendance to cheer their teammates on. The two star players could possibly make their debut in Europe’s elite competition next week when PAOK take on Poland’s standout PGE Skra BELCHATOW for a spot in the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition.
