Jordan Larson makes history with hat-trick of Club World Champs titles
News from the clubs
Istanbul, Turkey, October 31, 2016. Earlier this month Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL became the first club in history to retain the title from the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. They did so at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines after an epic final match where they eventually edged at the tie-break the gold medallists from the 2016 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League, Italy’s Pomì CASALMAGGIORE.
Eczacibasi VitrA did not lose a match in Manila and they completed their triumphal march by seizing the gold medal match with the Italians. Their outside spiker Jordan Larson achieved something truly historic as well by becoming the first player to ever win three (consecutive) Club World Championship titles. She did so in 2014 with Russia’s Dinamo KAZAN and in 2015 and 2016 with Eczacibasi VitrA.
Eczacibasi will soon make their debut in the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League – playing Bulgaria’s champions Maritza PLOVDIV on November 1.
Who is Jordan Larson?
Jordan Larson was born in 1986 in Nebraska, USA and has been playing for the US national team since 2009. After competing at collegiate level for three years, Larson moved to Russia and more specifically to Dinamo KAZAN where she stayed from 2009 to 2013. In 2012, Larson and the US national team made it to the gold medal match of the London Olympics where they eventually lost to Brazil. In 2010 and 2011 the outside spiker claimed the FIVB Volleyball World Gran Prix title and in 2011 finished as runner-up at the FIVB Volleyball World Cup in Japan. Larson is also a 2014 world champion with Team USA and a bronze medal winner from the Rio 2016 Olympics.
In 2012, Larson and Dinamo KAZAN finished in third place at the CEV Volleyball Champions League Final Four held in Baku, Azerbaijan before winning gold two years later. Shortly after that, Dinamo KAZAN and Larson added the 2014 Club World Championship crown to their honours.
She joined the ranks of Eczacibasi VitrA in the 2014-2015 season – and immediately achieved further success as the Turkish team won the CEV Volleyball Champions League in April 2015 and the Club World Championship a month later in Zurich. The American Volleyball star was voted the Most Valuable Player at both competitions. Only a week ago Larson added further glory to her resume by seizing yet another gold – the third in a row – at the Club World Championship in Manila.
