Sada Cruzeiro become three-time Club World Champions in fine style
News from the FIVB

Betim, Brazil, October 23, 2016. The 2016 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship had an amazing finale as host team Sada Cruzeiro once again climbed to the top of the world for their third crown at the competition, this time with an unbelievable performance resulting in a 3-0 victory over Zenit KAZAN in front of a packed Ginásio Divino Braga in Betim.

Out of the four games played between Sada Cruzeiro and Zenit KAZAN counting 2015 and 2016 editions, this was the most astonishing one from the world champions, as they brought the Russian side to their knees with a superb straight-set win (25-21, 25-23, 25-15), being the first time they blank this opponent.

The crowd in Betim played their role as well, bringing noise and colour to boost the energy of their team. And there’s no better proof to that than the place where Sada Cruzeiro gathered their three world titles was this same Divino Braga gymnasium.

MVP William Arjona and scorers Evandro Guerra and Yoandy Leal were the main actors of a team that played astonishingly as a whole. The three of them represented the gold medal winners on the competition Dream Team, as well as libero Sergio Nogueira. Outside spiker Wilfredo León and middle-blocker Artem Volvich featured for Zenit KAZAN while TRENTINO’s Simone Giannelli and Bolívar’s Pablo Crer also joined the elite.

The atmosphere for the final was already heated as Bolívar and TRENTINO battled for five thrilling sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 29-31, 17-15) at the bronze medal match, with the latter ending up triumphant after saving one championship point from their opponents. It was the sixth medal for TRENTINO, the only team that remains more victorious at the competition than Sada Cruzeiro, with four gold medals and two bronze to their credit.
