Plovdiv-native Dramov looks forward to playing before home crowd
2016 CEV U20 Volleyball European Championship - Men
Plovdiv, Bulgaria, August 30, 2016. The Bulgarian Volleyball national team will play Ukraine on the first day of the 2016 CEV U20 Volleyball European Championship – Men which will start this coming Friday, September 2 in Plovdiv and Varna. The young “Lions” will play all their matches at Kolodruma sports hall in the city of Plovdiv. Obviously, to play for your country in such a big tournament like this and to do so before a partisan audience is a great honour for any player.
But for sure the matches on schedule from September 2 to 10 will be more special for one guy - the Bulgarian libero Stanislav Dramov. He sustained an injury earlier this summer and missed out on some stages of the preparations for the European Championship but now Dramov is 100% ready for the start of the tournament.
The 19-year-old player was born in the city of Plovdiv. He started to play Volleyball with the local club Victoria Volley which is regarded as some kind of ‘factory’ of national team players. This club has grown a lot of great players including one of the major stars currently on the ‘senior’ national team – outside-spiker Nikolay Penchev.
“I was in a lot of countries, but the feeling to play in front of your supporters and the legendary Bulgarian crowd is absolutely a special moment for everyone. It’s like a dream come true! Actually, for me it will be a great honour to play in this European Championship. With all my heart I want to do and achieve something big as we are the hosts of the tournament and on top of this we play in my hometown! This feeling is just indescribable! The public will give us wings during the matches, I’m totally sure about this”, Dramov said.
Last year Bulgaria finished in sixth place the U19 European Championship held in Kocaeli and Sakarya, Turkey. Now, the players of coach Vladimir Nikolov are motivated to improve on their performance from spring 2015. “I don’t know the Ukrainian team, but I’m confident about our team’s strength and trust my teammates. I believe in the victory and I hope we can make a great start to the tournament”, Dramov concluded.
