Knack ROESELARE and Asterix KIELDRECHT retain Belgian league titles
News from the National Federations
Brussels, Belgium, May 5, 2016. The Belgian national league came to a close with Knack ROESELARE and Asterix KIELDRECHT retaining the men’s and women’s crowns they had claimed in 2015. Knack ROESELARE and Asterix KIELDRECHT completed a clean sweep of the domestic competitions as earlier in February they had won also Belgium’s national cup at the finals contested in Antwerp.
Knack ROESELARE needed only three rounds to end the championship series with arch-rivals Noliko MAASEIK. They first claimed a 3-2 away victory, followed by a 3-1 home triumph and a 3-0 away win. This is Knack’s fourth straight national league title. Their team captain Hendrik Tuerlinckx was instrumental to the achievement of this feat and on Wednesday night he scored 25 times to pave the way to a commanding 3-0 win for ROESELARE.
Knack’s mentor Emile Rousseaux received the award for the ‘Coach of the Year’ while the distinction for the ‘Rookie of the Year’ went to their 20-yer-old middle blocker Arno Van de Velde. The only honour which was not claimed by Knack or one of their players is the award for the ‘Player of the Year’, which went to the Dutch star player of VDK GENT Heren, Wouter ter Maat, best scorer of this year’s national league.
The ladies of Asterix KIELDRECHT did not drop a set in their championship series with VDK GENT Dames cruising to three straight 3-0 wins to claim the tenth national league title in their history. Their mentor Gert Vande Broek received once again the award for the ‘Coach of the Year’, while two players of Asterix – Sarah Smits and Britt Herbots – swept the honours for the “Player of the Year’ and ‘Rookie of the Year’, respectively.
