VIPs and former Volleyball stars to grace Final Four weekend in Montichiari

Montichiari, Italy, March 23, 2016. This week the hosts of this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women’s Final Four, Pomì CASALMAGGIORE, will finally get to know the names of the three teams that will join the elite club vying for Europe’s most coveted Volleyball crown.

Turkey’s Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL already secured their qualification for the Final Four on Tuesday night after claiming also their re-match with Russia’s Dinamo MOSCOW and two more teams will be determined soon to complete the field for the much anticipated Final Four weekend. Starting from Thursday night the local Organising Committee will be working as intensively as possible in order to finalise their preparations to host one of the real highlights of the 2016 Volleyball season.

The last couple of weeks have been busy as the Italian club is preparing to host teams, managers, CEV officials, journalists as well as a number of VIP guests from all over the world. The Final Four will be attended, inter alia, by CEV President Aleksandar Boričić, CEV Senior Vice President Renato Arena, Italian Volleyball Federation President Carlo Magri and the President of the Italian Women’s Volleyball League, Mauro Fabris.

The PalaGeorge (see picture), the venue hosting the Finals, which is named after the late Indian Volleyball player Jimmy George, will also welcome a number of other illustrious guests, starting with Brazilian coach José Roberto Guimaraes, aka Zé Roberto, a three-time Olympic gold medal winner with the Brazilian men’s (1992) and women’s national teams (2008 and 2012), and another three-time Olympic champion, Cuban Volleyball legend Mireya Luis.
Other retired Volleyball stars which are supposed to show up at PalaGeorge include USA’s Keba Phipps, Dutch Volleyball legend Henriette Weersing, Germany’s Angelina Hübner-Grün, Bulgaria’s Antonina Zetova and many more.

The schedule of the matches has been set as well with the semis coming up on Saturday, April 9, starting at 3:30 and 6:30 pm before the bronze and gold medal matches follow on Sunday, April 10 at 2:30 and 5:30 pm, respectively.

Many sponsors have decided to join forces with the local Organising Committee and have come forward to support the delivery of a Final Four which is expected to be broadcast in about 100 countries. Mediaset Premium Sport will be the host broadcaster and the Regional Government of Lombardy, upon initiative of their Chancellor for Sport, Antonio Rossi, a multiple Olympic champion in canoeing, have placed the event under their patronage.
