News from the Zonal Associations
Maribor, Slovenia, March 12, 2016. Slovenia’s Calcit LJUBLJANA completed a triumphal day for their country’s Volleyball family as on Saturday they lifted the trophy of the 2015-2016 women’s MEVZA Cup. Calcit claimed the final match with the winners of the regular season, Hungary’s Linamar BEKESCSABAI RSE, with a commanding 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-19, 25-19).
This was the first loss for the Hungarian team since the beginning of the season and even MEVZA Cup top scorer Greta Szakmary (who amassed a terrific haul of 148 points in ten matches) was not able to prevent this setback. This is the second MEVZA title for Calcit LJUBLJANA after the team previously topped the podium in 2014.
Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST finished the competition in third place. The Hungarians defeated hosts and four-time MEVZA champions Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23). Although they trailed at the first technical time-out of each set, Vasas Obuda needed only 84 minutes of play to celebrate their success.
