Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD secure thirteenth national cup title, Maksim Buculjevic takes MVP prize

Belgrade, Serbia, March 8, 2016. The men’s Volleyball team of Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD recently claimed their thirteenth national cup title as they defeated Mladi Radnik POZAREVAC in straight sets (25-23, 25-15, 25-14) after 74 minutes of play in front of a full house.

In a match worthy of the final stages of the competition, Crvena Zvezda live up to their status of pre-favourites, while Mladi Radnik were also up to the task and did not feel too much pressure though they were performing in front of their fans. On the contrary, they delivered quite a solid performance and thus added some extra flavour to the finals of the Serbian Cup as their club is celebrating the seventieth anniversary since its establishment.

Nenad Golijanin, Senior Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia presented the national cup trophy to the team captain of the winning team, Maksim Buculjevic, who also received the honour for the Most Valuable Player of the finals from the hands of Nikola Grbic, Serbia’s Volleyball legend and the current head coach of the country’s men’s national team.



The gold medals for the Cup winners were presented to the Red Star players by Bane Spasovic, Mayor of the city of Pozarevac and Zoran Avramovic, Marketing Director of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.

Vladimir Grbic, Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, presented Ivica Jevtic, captain of Mladi Radnik, with the trophy for the runners-up of the competition.

Petar Bogunovic, President of the Volleyball Association of Vojvodina, and Igor Ristic, President of the Volleyball club Mladi Radnik, awarded this team with the silver medals.



Another ‘champion’ contributed to further raise the profile of the event, but it was not a Volleyball player this time around. Gabriela Ubavic, the leading lyric coloratura soprano of the Prague Opera House, who originally hails from Pozarevac, sang the Serbian national anthem before the start of the match.

In a ceremony preceding the match, Nenad Golijanin, Senior Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia awarded Igor Ristic, President of the Volleyball club Mladi Radnik POZAREVAC with a special commemorative plaque on the occasion of their 70th anniversary, while Bogdan Sretenovic, President of the Association of Volleyball Coaches of Serbia awarded Milos Vujovic, coach of the pre-youth team of VC As from Belgrade and Sinisa Gavrancic, youth and junior coach of Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD, as the most successful coaches from the 2014/2015 season of Serbian age-group competitions.

The final match was attended by His Excellency Harry Richard James Kandu, Ambassador of Indonesia to Serbia, Bane Spasovic, Mayor of Pozarevac, and officials of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, namely Slobodan Milosevic, Secretary General, Nenad Golijanin, Senior Vice President, Vladimir Grbic, Vice President, Zoran Avramovic, Marketing Director, Dragutin Cuk, Technical Director, Darko Djurickovic, National Teams Coordinator, Bogdan Mamuzic, President of the First Teams Division Assembly, Petar Bogunovic, President of the Volleyball Association of Vojvodina, and Nikola Grbic, head coach of the men’s senior national team.
