SCHWERINER SC cruise to CEV Cup semis with commanding home victory
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Schwerin, Germany, February 25, 2016. It wasn’t the expected tough match between SCHWERINER SC and Romanian champions CS Volei Alba BLAJ as the hosts needed just a bit more than one hour to edge their opponent in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) and secure their spot in the semis of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

Only at the beginning of the first set the match seemed to deliver the expected fight starring two teams performing at the same level. BLAJ claimed the first point and up to 3-all it was the kind of match the 1,100 spectators in attendance had anticipated. BLAJ trailed by two points shortly afterwards and a few rallies later (10-7) the Romanian resistance was already broken with hosts SCHWERINER SC dominating the set. Everything worked out just fine for the home team while BLAJ didn’t find their way into the match. The first set ended 25-17 and SCHWERINER SC could start setting their sights on the semi-finals.

At the beginning of the second set SCHWERINER SC controlled the match with ease and claimed a four-point lead already at the first technical time-out. “My team played very focussed and aggressive today but the girls never went overboard,” said a visibly happy Felix Koslowski, coach of SCHWERINER SC, after the match. Even a tight phase in the middle of the set when BLAJ cut their distance from four (11-7) to two points (11-9) didn’t scare the team of captain Lousi Souza Ziegler and after 22 minutes the second set was over and with it the qualification for the semi-final was secured (25-13).

The excited spectators and a relieved team of SCHWERINER SC continued playing disciplined whilst the demoralised players of BLAJ couldn’t keep up with the German record champions. An 8-2 lead at the first technical time-out kind of called for a quick end of the match. In 66 minutes SCHWERINER SC claimed a spot in the semis of this year’s CEV Volleyball Cup and will be now waiting to host Turkey’s Galatasaray ISTANBUL for their home match on March 8.
