Match of the Week between Chemik and Fenerbahce to open Playoff programme
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Szczecin, Poland, February 8, 2016. Poland’s champions Chemik POLICE and Turkey’s standout Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL will open on Tuesday night the programme of the Playoffs 12 in the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women.
Giuseppe Cuccarini, the Italian-born coach of Chemik POLICE, claims that Fenerbahce were not that lucky with the outcome of the Drawing of Lots for the Playoffs 12 of Europe’s elite competition. The Yellow Angels from Istanbul finished the group stage of the Champions League with six straight wins and they did not leave any chance to their opponents in Pool E. However, to continue their European journey Fenerbahce will now be playing Poland’s reigning champions Chemik POLICE.
“Many people in Poland think that the Drawing of Lots did not go so well for us. In my opinion, this is a mistake. The Drawing of Lots was maybe unlucky, but not for us. Fenerbahce finished on top of their pool and after sweeping six matches in a row they got to play us. We knew beforehand we would anyway get a very difficult opponent, for them this was only a chance out of many options,” Cuccarini said.
Chemik and Fenerbahce are in very good shape and have both lost only one match so far in their respective national leagues. Last weekend Fenerbahce edged another star-studded opponent in VakifBank ISTANBUL, whereas Chemik claimed their match with Legionovia LEGIONOWO.
“We know the class of our opponents, but we still have to believe in our chances of success. We can play at the highest level, so all we need to do is focus and play our best volleyball. Then we can compete with Fenerbahce,” said the libero of Chemik POLICE, Paulina Maj-Erwardt.
The clash starring Chemik POLICE and Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL has been picked at the ‘Match of the Week’.
