Chemik POLICE celebrate straight-sets win over Czech champions
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Prostejov, Czech Republic, January 27, 2016. The match on schedule for the sixth and last round of action in Pool C of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women between Agel PROSTEJOV and Chemik POLICE finished with a very easy win for the visitors from Poland. The hosts were not able to deal with the overwhelming strength of the reigning Polish champions. It did not take long for Chemik to impose their rule and cruise to a commanding 3-0 win (25-19, 25-14, 25-18).

The Czech ladies made it a bit difficult for the Polish team only at the beginning of the opening set where they managed to take a three-point lead (9-6). However, the hot favourites soon found their game and stormed back (13-12) and, from then on, they did not have any serious problems anymore. The Poles did better in serving, setting and defence and mainly their attack was much better which helped them put the home team under constant pressure. Agel PROSTEJOV could not deal with this and started to pile up mistake after mistake. It was obvious that the match was controlled by the Poles.

“After our good match in Istanbul we believed that we would play a close game also against Chemik. But tonight we had to deal with a high-quality opponent and our performance was not really good in any of the aspects of the game. We did not have a lot of chances in the match because the visitors did much better in attack and defence, so they definitely deserved to win. As their all-round performance was better than ours, we were not able to repeat our good game against Eczacibasi,” said Miroslav Cada, the head coach of Agel PROSTEJOV.

“We prepared very well for this match and we expected to make it really difficult for POLICE after our good performance in Istanbul. But this did not happen because we could not keep their pace. Our play was not as good as theirs and I have to admit that I am disappointed with this straight-sets loss,” added Quinta Steenbergen, the Dutch-born middle blocker of Agel PROSTEJOV.

“I am very happy with our performance in this highly important match. We were kind of afraid after our previous 1-3 loss to CASALMAGGIORE but we played extremely well tonight and we made it. Our players exactly followed the tactics we agreed, their attacking was great and they played amazing volleyball, and I have to thank them for that,” commented Giuseppe Cuccarini, the head coach of Chemik POLICE.

“Of course I am delighted with the result, but the 3-0 win is a surprise to us. We did not expect to claim such an easy win after the good game of PROSTEJOV in Istanbul where they lost only 2-3 to Eczacibasi. PROSTEJOV are a strong team and we knew we had to win, so it is great that we managed to pocket the match without losing a single set. It really makes us happy because this result will help us a lot in our difficult situation in Pool C and we are also quite tired,” said Helena Havelkova, the Czech-born Volleyball star playing for the Polish team.
