PERUGIA claim second 3-1 win over German powervolleys to continue CEV Cup journey
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men
Perugia, Italy, January 27, 2016. On Wednesday night Italy’s Sir Safety-Sicoma PERUGIA secured their qualification for the Challenge Round of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men after recording their second 3-1 win in one week over Germany’s SWD powervolleys DÜREN (25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17).
The start of the match already set the tone for what was going to follow. The home team showed their class and better physical and technical skills to impose their supremacy throughout the match. Aleksandar Atanasijevic, the Serbian-born world-class opposite of PERUGIA, left his mark on the opening set which came to an end with a commanding 25-15 win for the hosts. The second set followed the same pattern with PERUGIA comfortably cruising to another dominant (25-14) set victory.
The third set was a different story as PERUGIA had already secured their progression to the next round and changed almost their entire starting six. The Germans used this opportunity to play their best game and claim the third set by 25-22. However, in the fourth set the Italians restored their leadership in the match and so it finally ended in a 3-1 victory for the players around head coach Slobodan Kovac.
