DHL MODENA back on track to secure top spot in Pool F
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men

Modena, Italy, January 26, 2016. Italy’s DHL MODENA claimed on Tuesday night their fifth victory in Pool F of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men after recording a 3-0 win in their home matchup with Slovenia’s ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (25-20, 25-23, 25-17). The Italians eventually topped the charts of their group and after this result they also got a more favourable position ahead of the Drawing of Lots that on Thursday morning will determine the grid of the Playoffs in Europe’s elite club competition.

DHL MODENA caught a perfect start with their Brazilian duo consisting of setter Bruno Rezende and middle blocker Lucas Saatkamp moving the score to 15-13 before the second technical time-out of the opening set. The hosts continued to keep the rhythm high (19-17) and they eventually brought the first set to a happy end at 25-20.

The beginning of the second set was very balanced before MODENA edged ahead at 6-4. After claiming a small margin at 21-19, the Italians were able to hold on to it to finish the second set at 25-23.

The early stages of the third set were another close race with home setter Bruno Rezende opting mostly for outside spiker Nemanja Petric and young middle blocker Elia Bossi. The set ended in a fairly comfortable 25-17 win for DHL MODENA and this was enough to secure first place in Pool F with five victories and only one setback along the way – the one suffered last week in Poland in the match with Lotos Trefl GDANSK.

Home mentor Angelo Lorenzetti sounded quite happy after the match: “We have won an important match, as important as all others we play in the Champions League. We have been playing every three days and it’s not easy to be always on top. We have been focussed from start to end, and especially in the crucial moments, and now it’s time to wait for the Drawing of Lots, we know every team will be hard to play with but we will do our best to make it to the Final Four.”

Zoran Kedacic, coach of ACH Volley, said: “We knew it was going to be a hard match. My boys gave everything on the court, we will leave Modena knowing that we are young and we can play good Volleyball.”
