Calcit KAMNIK hope for golden set in re-match with Ukrainian champions
2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Kamnik, Slovenia, January 25, 2016. Calcit KAMNIK lost their first match in the 1/8 finals of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men in Kharkiv (1-3; 19-25, 18-25, 25-22, 17-25) against Lokomotiv KHARKIV. The Ukrainian players showed a very good game, but the Slovenian Cup winners now hope for a 3-0 or 3-1 home win to go for the golden set and stay alive in the competition.
After their victory over ACH Volley LJUBLJANA in Slovenia’s Cup finals, the players of Calcit KAMNIK lost three matches in a row, including their first match in the 1/8 finals of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men in Kharkiv. The Slovenian team showed a good game every now and then, but the Ukrainians were overall better and they fully deserved the victory.
“We lost against a team of higher qualities and surrounded by an incredible atmosphere. It was a success that we won one set in Ukraine, but I think we showed a good game. It is true that we made some mistakes, but you have to risk against a stronger opponent and sometimes it doesn’t pay off,” said Domen Kotnik, outside spiker of the Slovenian team about the first match in Kharkiv.
“I hope at the end we will win this re-match at home. I think it will be a small shock for the Ukrainian players when they will see our small hall because they are used to halls with high roofs - like their hall in Kharkiv. They saved some balls almost from the top of the hall in the first match, but they won’t be able to do the same here. And they won’t have the support of their fans. We have our trumps, too, and we will try to use them,” Kotnik explained showing some optimism.
The match will be held in Kamnik on Wednesday, January 27, at 20:00 local time.
