‘Impelki’ committed to writing history for their club
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Wroclaw, Poland, January 24, 2016. Before the last leg of the group phase in the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women, Poland’s Impel WROCLAW still stand a fair chance of progressing to the next round of the competition and of achieving what would be a historic qualification to the Playoffs of Europe’s elite competition.
In order to make this happen, the players of Impel have to claim their last home match in Pool E with Azerbaijan’s Telekom BAKU. This coming Wednesday the ‘Impelki’, as the players of Impel are nicknamed, will be able to count on their passionate supporters once they embark on this mission as Orbita sports hall has been packed with fans for each of their home matches so far. They will also keep an eye on the result of the other match in Pool E between Turkey’s Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL and Germany’s DRESDNER SC for the latter are also still in contention for a spot in the Playoffs.
Last October Impel WROCLAW started their campaign in this competition with a 3-0 away win over Telekom BAKU and even though the team from Azerbaijan’s capital are still winless, they remain a hard nut to crack.
“We are ready for this match. We want play our best and win. It’s important to remain concentrated from the first to the last minute. Telekom also want to win – we must remember this,” said Jacek Grabowski, head coach of Impel WROCLAW.
Agata Sawicka, the star libero of the team from the capital of Lower Silesia, has recovered from injury and will be back in action for the matchup with Telekom BAKU. It’s good news for the whole team. Kristin Hildebrand, Monika Ptak and Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata, the real leaders of the group, all played a very solid match earlier this week when Impel beat DRESDNER SC in Germany. This sounds as a good omen for the matchup with Telekom as Impel WROCLAW players are all committed to writing history for their club.
“I hope we’ll win on Wednesday and give a great joy to our fans. Telekom BAKU is a tough opponent, but in January we only have difficult matches,” concluded team captain Joanna Kaczor.
