Dinamo MOSCOW take big step on their way to CL Playoffs
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Moscow, Russia, January 20, 2016. On Wednesday Dinamo MOSCOW cruised to a compelling 3-0 win (25-15, 25-23, 26-24) in their matchup with France’s PARIS Volley to make a big step forward on their way to qualifying for the Playoff stage of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men, this way also making amends for the tie-break loss they had suffered in early December in the French capital.
The first set was an easy ride for Dinamo MOSCOW as the Russians claimed a massive 17-8 lead and went on to finish it off at 25-15. The story of the match changed completely in the second set where PARIS Volley cruised to an early 8-3 lead but Dinamo fought back to draw level at 17-all. Alexander Markin scored the final point of the set at 25-23 to further cement his status of rising star after he delivered a terrific performance in the final match of the men’s Olympic qualifier in Berlin where Russia secured their ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The third set was another close affair as well with Dinamo needing as many as four match points before Ivan Zaytsev had the last say at 26-24. Zaytsev was the most prolific player of the match with 20 points. Dinamo MOSCOW continue to fight with Turkey’s Ziraat Bankasi ANKARA for the top spot in Pool B.
Zaytsev (pictured) commented at the end of the match: “This is a good result for us. We felt the support of our fans today. It is a strong-willed victory, especially as the second and third sets were really tough. We could not afford any setback tonight and we also got our revenge from the loss we suffered some weeks ago in Paris.”
Home star Yury Berezhko added: “PARIS Volley served really well at the beginning of the second set and we did not expect that. Though it was a difficult match, we managed to stand the pressure and executed the game plan prepared by our coach. We were well prepared today and determined to win. PARIS Volley are a good team and they also wanted to win tonight.”
