Dinamo KRASNODAR edge Stiinta to set sight on CEV Cup Challenge Round
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Bacau, Romania, January 20, 2016. Last year’s gold medallists Dinamo KRASNODAR did not leave any chance to hosts Stiinta BACAU in the first round of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women quarter-finals. On Wednesday Dinamo cruised to a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) to get the right edge for the return match coming up in Russia next week.
Though the final score may suggest the match was quite one-sided, the Russian armada had to fight for their victory. Stiinta BACAU started each of the three sets with a lot of determination and were able to pose an early threat to their opponents. However, the Russian stars made the difference towards the end of each period by relying on their experience and class.
“It was a pleasure to play against Stiinta, they play very fast and I especially liked their defence,” said Dinamo Natalia Malykh.
“It was a pretty difficult match and I am sure that the audience enjoyed it,” commented Russian mentor Konstantin Ushakov. “We will fight to win this trophy once more and repeat our achievement from last year.”
The coach of Stiinta BACAU, Florin Grapa, said: “I think we played a good game but unfortunately we lost in the end. And I think that the decision about who makes it to the next stage of the competition was made tonight here in Bacau.”
