Düren welcomes international superstars
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Düren, Germany, January 19, 2016. Germany’s SWD powervolleys DÜREN are the underdogs in their quarter-final fixture of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men where they are playing Italy’s standout Sir Safety-Sicoma PERUGIA.
The Germans have been looking forward to this match for weeks. “It is an honour to welcome PERUGIA to our Arena,” SWD powervolleys coach Anton Brams said. “They are a team packed with world-class players, and we are proud to present an opponent of this calibre to our fans.”
Brams leaves no doubt that his players will be highly motivated to challenge the Italians as much as possible. “They have world class guys like Luciano De Cecco and Aleksandar Atanasijevic in their team – just to mention a couple of them. And they have two of Germany’s best attackers with Denys Kaliberda and Christian Fromm. For us, this will be a learning experience and the ultimate challenge,” Brams said. “However, we are going to give all we have to offer. Let us find out what this is good for.”
The Germans started playing better and better in December, and got the right boost of confidence after a convincing win over Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE to book their ticket to the quarter-finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup, and would like to continue with their development process.
For the first time this season, all powervolleys players are healthy and ready to take the court. “Everybody is in a good mood and highly motivated. We are ready,” Brams said. For DÜREN, it was one the biggest successes in the club history to make it to this stage of the CEV Volleyball Cup. Five years ago the team had made it to the quarter-finals as well and fell short from upsetting Poland’s top team Asseco Resovia RZESZOW after an epic five-set battle that gave the fans much to cheer about.
After the rematch a week later in Perugia, it will be decided which team makes it to the Challenge Round and will be playing one of four teams being relegated from the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.
