Swiss Dragons claim also re-match with Romanian champions
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Constanta, Romania, December 17, 2015. On Thursday night #Dragons LUGANO claimed another three points in Pool G of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men edging Romanian champions Tomis CONSTANTA in straight sets (25-18, 25-8, 25-22) for the second time in two weeks. The domination of the Swiss champions was absolutely overwhelming, and they did not have to stand any reaction from a team which has been having problems after former head coach Martin Stoev and four important players – Boyan Yordanov, Ventsislav Ragin, Goran Skundric and Stephen Gotch – all left the club from the Black Sea Coast.
The guests from Switzerland imposed their rule right from the first set (8:5, 16:8, and 21:13) and easily pocketed the opening period with the score of 25-18. The second set was also under control of the Dragons, who finished it off with an incredible 25-8 score. The situation changed in the last set, when Tomis got to the front (8:4) before LUGANO flipped the charts around by the second technical time-out (16:13). CONSTANTA tried to come-back but the Swiss champions had full control of the operations and won also the third set by 25-22.
“Last year we lost in straight sets in Constanta. Now, the situation was totally different, but I cannot be happy after this victory, because our libero Nikola Rosic got injured in the last set. We managed to play a good game, even if Tomis CONSTANTA is in a difficult situation right now. This result is very good for us especially before the most important match of the season which is due to follow in January in Belgium, when we play Volley ASSE-LENNIK. If we manage to win that match, we could stand real chances of making the Playoffs,” declared #Dragons mentor Mario Motta.
“The first two sets were poor for us but in the last one we played better. We could do more, even in our difficult situation. The guys put their hearts into the game and I liked this very much. This is important and gives us hope for the future,” said Tomis head coach Radu Began.
