Stiinta BACAU easily dispose of Serbian opponent to move on to CEV Cup quarterfinals
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women
Bacau, Romania, December 17, 2015. Romania’s Stiinta BACAU secured on Thursday night their qualification for the quarterfinals of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women following their easy and speedy 3:0 victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-12) in the second matchup with Serbia’s NIS Spartak SUBOTICA. The visitors from Serbia made as many as 18 service errors and as a result they stood no chance of posing a real threat to the hosts.
Stiinta BACAU had little problems in the first and second sets, mostly as they found it difficult to cope with the service of Jelena Oluic, but this was not enough for the visitors from Serbia to make it a close match.
“I think we had a good match today and I would like to praise my players who performed very well and mobilised all of their forces. I had told them beforehand that though we had won last week, we should have tried and performed our best since our opponents were just going to play with no pressure. I am happy that we will now continue our journey in the CEV Cup in 2016 and probably we will have two very tough matches against last year’s gold medallists Dinamo KRASNODAR,” said Stiinta BACAU’s coach, Florin Grapa.
“Our team played very bad today, making too many mistakes, especially at serving. I congratulate the Romanian team and wish them good luck in the next round,” said NIS Spartak SUBOTICA’s assistant coach, Vladimir Kapris.
One of the best players of the Romanian side was Claudia Gavrilescu, who celebrated her 35th birthday on the day of the decisive match with NIS Spartak SUBOTICA.
