Volley KÖNIZ defeat Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD to move on to quarterfinals
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women
Belgrade, Serbia, December 15, 2015. On Tuesday night Switzerland’s Volley KÖNIZ defeated Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD of Serbia with the impressive score of 3:0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) and by doing so, they progressed to the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women quarterfinals. The Swiss girls were the dominant force from the beginning up until the end of the match, practically leaving no chance to the young Serbian team.
Volley KÖNIZ had a better attack, and was stronger in service and reception, while Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD were making too many mistakes to be able to turn the match into a real challenge for the visiting team. The Swiss needed only 69 minutes to finish the game and the visitors could celebrate with some of their fans, who had travelled all the way to Serbia to support their heroines.
Han Abbing, the coach of Volley KÖNIZ, was surprised that his team claimed the match so easy: “We expected a much harder game, because in Switzerland the game was a lot tighter, but their number eleven could not play tonight.”
Aleksandar Boskovic, coach of Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD, faced reality and said after the game: “You can see that we are still a young team, you can see the difference in years of experience and in the quality of our opponent. We still make too many small mistakes, but this is common for young teams, but we’ll get there.”
