AS CANNES record second 3:0 victory against Posojilnica AICH/DOB
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Cannes, France, December 15, 2015. AS CANNES claimed also the re-match of their fixture in the Round of 16 of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men with Austria’s Posojilnica AICH/DOB and did so again cruising to a three-set victory (25-22, 25-15, 25-16) to seal their spot in the quarterfinals of Europe’s second most prestigious club competition.
AS CANNES had to start this game without their captain Pierre Pujol, side-lined by an injury and who had to follow the match from the bench. Youngster Fran Novotni Kasic was chosen to lead the home team towards a second victory over the Austrians. The players of AS CANNES did not have to waste too much energy to make the difference right from the start and wrapped the first set up at 25-22.
The second set started almost the same way as the first one and the home side took the lead at the first technical time-out (8:5). Posojilnica AICH/DOB couldn’t pose any real threat against an excellent performance by Dusan Petkovic who paced AS CANNES towards a compelling 25-15 win in the second period to already secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup.
In the third set the mentor of AS CANNES, Igor Kolakovic, decided to inject some fresh blood and young players such as Luka Basic, Timothée Carle and Nikola Antonijevic used this opportunity to perform on the European stage. With so much fresh energy on the field the motivation was high and thanks to many points scored by Timothée Carle, AS CANNES piled up a seven-point lead at the second technical time-out. Igor Kolakovic’s team logically cruised to a straight-set victory, bringing the third period to an end at 25-16.
In the next stage of the competition in January AS CANNES will be playing Spain’s CAI TERUEL.
