Last chance for Romania’s champions Tomis after three straight setbacks
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Constanta, Romania, December 14, 2015. Tomis CONSTANTA will play host to Swiss champs #Dragons LUGANO this coming Thursday in the fourth round of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men. It will be the last chance for Romania’s champions to stay in contention for second place in Pool G, as only a victory can keep the club from the Black Sea coast in the race for making the next stage of Europe’s elite competition. This game will be special for Serbian libero Nikola Rosic (pictured, #19) who played last season for Tomis and comes back to Constanta now wearing the shirt of the Swiss Dragons.
But the situation of the team is not so good after last week Tomis parted ways with their Bulgarian mentor, Martin Stoev, and also with their Serbian libero Goran Skundric. Also Bulgarian’s players Boyan Yordanov and Ventsislav Ragin have left the team and young players George Gavriz, Ovidiu Darlaczi and Radu Dediulescu have now been included on the roster for the last games in the pool stage of the Champions League.
Tomis lost in straight sets the last two matches they have played in the national league in Galati and Caransebes, and the defending champions are only ranked seventh in the current standing of their national league. Former assistant coach Radu Began prepares now the team and the guys are determined to play at a high level in their next games in Europe’s elite competition and fight for every point in Pool G.
“The game will be difficult, but we will play at home and we are extra motivated to play really well in front of our supporters. We want to play as well as we did in Lugano, where the match was close and we showed that we are improving,” declares middle blocker Sergiu Stancu, captain of Tomis.
