Galatasaray get right edge with home victory against VDK GENT Dames
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, December 10, 2015. On Thursday night Galatasaray ISTANBUL hosted Belgium’s VDK GENT Dames in Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall for their first matchup in the Round of 16 of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women. Even though they had some problems in reception, the hosts controlled the match from start to end to seal a 3:0 win (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) and get the right edge for the return match coming up next week in Belgium.
The visiting team of VDK GENT Dames had their moments in this match with efficient serving rounds, but Galatasaray ISTANBUL was the better side, especially when it comes to the quality of their offensive game. The hosts displayed a well-controlled game in the first set and kept their opponent at a certain distance, eventually bringing it to an end at 25-16.
In the early stages of the second set, however, VDK GENT Dames started to play faster and edged ahead leading by 8:5 at the first technical time-out. Galatasaray ISTANBUL did not change their routine and during the serving round of young middle blocker Asli Kalac, they closed in (13:13). The hosts eventually won the second set by 25-22 and had a good start in the third set as well. Great serving rounds from spikers Charlotte Leys and Ada Germen pushed Galatasaray up to win the set 25-16, thus taking a compelling 3:0 home victory.
