SWD powervolleys DÜREN come back from two sets down to hand Jihostroj their first setback this season
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Düren, Germany, December 2, 2015. Germany’s SWD powervolleys DÜREN were able to come back from two sets down to claim the first round of their 8th Finals tie with Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. After trailing 0:2 and recording a poor performance in the second set, the Germans found their rhythm and right energy to storm back and edge past at the tie-break (23-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-9).

“We knew we had a chance after we lost the first set because of the little mistakes that we made there,” said home mentor Anton Brams. “After the second set, which was disappointing, we said to ourselves: Okay guys, let us do it in five.”

The coach of Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE, Jan Svoboda, paid tribute to the opponents. “They showed that they are a good team. From the third set on, their reception was a lot better, and so was their attack as well.”

After the first two sets it looked like there was no doubt about which player was going to be the man of the match: this role definitely belonged to Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE’s Filip Habr, who dominated the end of the first set and the start of the second with his strong serves. However, DÜREN regrouped and made some substitutions that worked out well and enabled them to get back on track. Top scorer of the night was home hero Sebastian Gevert (pictured) with 17 points, whilst Tomas Fila and Daniel de Souza Maciel scored 15 each for CESKE BUDEJOVICE.

These two teams meet again in two weeks in the Czech Republic to find out who will eventually progress to the quarterfinals of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men.
