Nordmeccanica PIACENZA add third straight win to their records
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Piacenza, Italy, November 26, 2015. Italy’s Nordmeccanica PIACENZA added on Thursday night another victory to their positive streak in Pool F of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. After easily edging France’s rookies Rocheville LE CANNET in three sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-16), Nordmeccanica further cemented their supremacy in Pool F with three straight wins and full nine points to top the provisional standing, waiting now for a re-match with LE CANNET to follow in two weeks.
Actually PIACENZA had to play this match without their star outside spiker Floortje Meijners who got injured last Saturday in a national league match with Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO. The early stages of the match were a close affair and Rocheville LE CANNET even got to the front in the first set leading by 10:6. However, the visitors from France could not stand the furious comeback by the hosts who scored six in a row to flip the charts around at 12:10. Rocheville LE CANNET could keep the score tight but only for a while and an ace by the Serbian setter of PIACENZA, Maja Ognjenovic, moved the charts to 20:17. Rocheville LE CANNET made a number of errors towards the end of the set and paved the way with gold for PIACENZA that wrapped it up at 25-21.
After that Nordmeccanica got the right boost of confidence and played with great intensity in the second set. Rocheville LE CANNET, on the other hand, found it difficult to score and so the home heroines comfortably closed the second set at 25-15 with a point claimed by their team captain Christina Bauer.
The third period followed a similar plot with PIACENZA setting the pace right from the start and doing so halfway through as well (12:6), piling up a margin of six points also at the second technical time-out (16:10) following an ace by Giulia Pascucci. After the break, everything went just easy for the hosts who finished the game in 69 minutes only (25-16).
Christina Bauer top scored in the end with 14 points whilst Yevgeniya Nyukhalova and Elisabeth Fedele paced Rocheville LE CANNET with 11 apiece.
