Czechs rout Dutch Dynamo for second time to move on to next round in CEV Cup
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, November 17, 2015. Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE secured on Tuesday night their promotion to the second stage of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men after routing for the second time in a row Draisma Dynamo APELDOORN in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 27-25). The Czechs will be playing in the next round the winners of the clash starring France’s ASUL LYON Métropole and Germany’s SWD powervolleys DÜREN.
The first point went straight to the home guys on a service winner by their setter Filip Habr, and after that even though the Czechs kept on pushing, their opponents from the Netherlands were initially able to keep the score tight. Both teams made a lot of unforced errors in the opening set but in the end Jihostroj had the upper hand, mostly with the contribution of their spiker Tomas Fila (25-19).
Jihostroj continued to perform well also in the second set and their opponents were not quite able to match the pace of the home guys. The Brazilian opposite of Jihostroj, Daniel De Souza Maciel, was just unstoppable, whereas the Dutch players seemed to lack energy and power. The local fans continued to support the home team with a lot of passion and after another 25-19 set win, the Czechs had already secured their promotion to the next round of the CEV Volleyball Cup.
With 1,350 supporters in attendance who contributed to a great atmosphere, the hosts relaxed a bit in the third set trailing 2:7 and 6:11, but they were able to regroup and their deficit was down to two points at 14:16. After two more blocks by the home team the score was levelled at 16 all and following a close battle, Maciel scored the most important points to finish it all off after 85 minutes of play (27-25).
“We prepared for this match for about a week because we knew how important this was,” said home manager Stanislav Pochop. “We played very well, especially in the first set, where Tomas Fila was definitely our best player.”
Renzo Verschuren, middle blocker of Draisma Dynamo, commented: “We did not perform well but we nevertheless tried to play our own game. However, it was not good enough in the end and Jihostroj was clearly the better side tonight.”
