Home victory against Viteos NEUCHATEL Université takes Galatasaray ISTANBUL to CEV Cup Round of 16
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, November 12, 2015. After their 3:2 away victory from two weeks ago, Turkey’s Galatasaray ISTANBUL were determined to show their real power in the re-match with Switzerland’s Viteos NEUCHATEL Université played at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall and they did so cruising to a speedy 3:0 victory (25-20, 25-12, 25-13) to secure their qualification to Round of 16 in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.
If you look at all the fundamentals of the game, the hosts were definitely the side that imposed their rule throughout the whole match. Galatasaray ISTANBUL had a good start with Asli Kalac who served quite efficiently to prevent Viteos NEUCHATEL Université from organising their offensive play. Towards the end of the first set, Viteos managed to close the gap taking the score from 21:11 to 24:20. However, Galatasaray ISTANBUL closed the set with a superb attack by their Italian opposite Nadia Centoni.
Substitutions and time-outs were not enough for Viteos NEUCHATEL to get back on track. As their persistent defence did not stop the hosts, Galatasaray ISTANBUL easily pocketed the second and third periods with an exhibition of disciplined and consistent Volleyball (25-12; 25-13).
Nadia Centoni stated that it was a great victory and Galatasaray ISTANBUL must continue to perform with the same quality also in the next rounds: “We still have a long way to go. The goal is the CEV Cup finals. We have a lot to improve but it is clear that we are willing to work hard to reach our objectives.”
Viteos NEUCHATEL Université’s head coach Silvan Zindel explained the reason his team was eliminated from the CEV Volleyball Cup: “Galatasaray played a great match. They kept us under pressure all the time, making it impossible for us to play our game and turn the tide.”
In the next round of Europe’s second most prestigious club competition Galatasaray will play Belgium’s VDK GENT Dames who needed a golden set to claim their tie with Dutch national champions VC SNEEK. Viteos NEUCHATEL Université, on the other hand, will continue their journey in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup playing the eventual winners of the clash starring RSR WALFER of Luxembourg and Austria’s Ti-panoramabau INNSBRUCK.
