Galatasaray bounce back after losing opening set to celebrate home victory in CEV Cup debut
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Istanbul, Turkey, November 5, 2015. Turkey’s Galatasaray ISTANBUL started their adventure in the 2016 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup recording a 3:1 home victory (22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19) in their matchup with Romania’s Volei Municipal ZALAU on Thursday night. The hosts bounced back after losing the opening set and swept three in a row to get the right edge for the return match in Romania.
The visitors from Romania started well in the first set whereas Galatasaray struggled in reception and even good serving by their Colombian opposite Liberman Agamez was not enough for the hosts to come back (22-25).
Things changed in the second set where Galatasaray stormed to the front with the help of Agamez and the contribution of their middle blockers Emin Gök and Ibrahim Emet. They also served very well and Galatasaray cruised to a 25-20 win which gave them the right momentum also for the remainder of the match.
Volei Municipal ZALAU seemed to lose their rhythm and they made the job a lot easier for the hosts. Even though Brazilian Leonardo Joao Dal Bosco and Iulian Bala played with determination and courage, everything went just easy for Galatasaray that swept set 3 and 4 by 25-13 and 25-19, respectively.
The Finnish setter of Galatasaray Eemi Tervaportti was pleased to start his journey in the CEV Volleyball Cup with a victory and said: “We had ups and downs in the first set. We must play with more consistency and keep up the good work for the future.”
On the other hand the Bulgarian mentor of Volei Municipal ZALAU Stoyan Stoev was visibly unhappy and disappointed: “After the first set, we completely lost focus. It is our own fault that we lost this game so badly because we can do much more than what we showed tonight. Now we must focus on the re-match that we will be playing before our fans. It is our advantage to have the second match at home but it does not make it any easier for us to take this tie to a golden set.”
