LP SALO storm to three-set victory in CEV Cup opening round
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Salo, Finland, October 29, 2015. Finland’s LP SALO opened their campaign in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women with a commanding 3:0 home victory (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) in their first matchup with Israel’s HAIFA VC.
LP SALO started the match at a high pace and Ukrainian-born Olena Lymareva scored nine points in the opening set before finishing the game on a personal tally of 20. Serbian middle blocker Dubravka Rakic also performed very well and contributed to the Finnish champions’ victory with eight blocks and four aces.
“I am really satisfied with tonight’s game. We did very well especially at blocking as we had 16 tonight,” said the mentor of LP SALO, Kari Raatikainen. “We did well with our serve as well and Rakic was very good in this fundamental. Also our setter Tatsiana Mysliuchyk played well.”
HAIFA VC could not find a way to pass through the imposing block of LP SALO and also their performance in reception was not outstanding. On top of this, the Israelis were missing their best player, Belarusian-born opposite Aksana Bulyha.
“We had big problems in reception and after that all other things went wrong. Actually this was our first tough game this season and even though we have been working really hard in our run up, this was evident in our minds,” said their coach Haim Kessel.
The return match is scheduled to take place on November 11 in Israel.
