Micelli to stay at the helm of Atomic Girls for another two years
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Sopot, Poland, April 14, 2015. Lorenzo Micelli  has steered the Atomic Girls on their way to winning this year’s national cup and last Saturday his team was very close to complete a sensational comeback in the final match of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women with Russia’s Dinamo KRASNODAR. On top of this, the Atomic Girls are still in the race for a medal in Poland’s national league, which is their ultimate goal this season. Micelli will have the opportunity to vie for more success with the Atomic Girls after on Tuesday night it was announced that he will be staying with the team for another couple of years.

“We could have extended his contract for just one year but I have decided to stick to what I said already some time ago, i.e. that we believe in a long-term cooperation with this coach. We still want to work together with him to pursue the highest goals with our senior team and at the same time we want to raise the level of our youth players,” said the chairman of PGE Atom Trefl, Mr Roman Szczepan Kniter. “At this stage we do not know anything about the final results of this season because we are just about to start the semis of the national league. However, we already won the national cup and made the final of the CEV Cup. We want to focus on providing a stable and sustainable environment for our players and these are the most important things to us. We want to show to our current players and those who may join us in the future that these are the conditions they will find here in Sopot for the next couple of years.”

In Poland Micelli is perceived as the coach who has left the most impressive mark on his team in the current season. At the end of 2014 SOPOT showed some ups and downs but since January the team has started playing better and better and at this point the Atomic Girls are able to stand any opponent in Poland and in Europe as well.

“I am very happy to stay here and with the opportunity to continue to build up this club,” Micelli said. “We have been talking a lot with the club’s president and we have been weighing up the results and all processes relating to our team. After considering where we stood at the beginning of the season and where we have made it to, especially after reaching the final of the CEV Volleyball Cup and winning the national cup, the club’s president has decided to trust me once again and I have agreed on the terms and conditions that were offered to me.”

The club has prolonged Micelli’s contract only a few days before the start of the semis in Poland’s national league where SOPOT will be playing Polski Cukier Muszynianka MUSZYNA. This means that Mr Kniter trusts Micelli will be able to claim a fifth consecutive medal for Atom Trefl in this competition. The Atomic Girls have so far two gold medals, one silver and one bronze from the past four seasons. They also competed in three consecutive editions of the CEV Volleyball Champions League.
