Istanbul archrivals: Whoever wins Turkish semifinal will win trophy as well!
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Istanbul, Turkey, March 27, 2015.  The brains of Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL and VakıfBank ISTANBUL have met by the Bosporus for a private interview with Suleyman Arat from Hurriyet.  One Turkish team is certainly going to be in the final of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women.  The head coaches of Eczacibasi VitrA and VakıfBank as well as their successful setters Asuman Karakoyun and Naz Aydemir Akyol are certain that that Turkish team is also going to win the title this season.

The Turkish volleyball fans are already excited about the semifinal match between Eczacibasi VitrA and VakıfBank that is to be played in the Polish city of Szczecin on the April 4. The two Turkish teams will face each other in this grand semifinal battle and then one of them will try to bring the Champions League trophy to Turkey by emerging victorious from a final match against the winner of the other semifinal between Poland’s Chemik POLICE and Italy’s Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO.

Giovanni Guidetti, head coach of VakifBank:  We are not the favourite!

“I will live the excitement of a Final Four with VakifBank for the fourth time.  We won the trophy twice and we had one silver medal.  We want to live the same success at this year.  To be thought of as a favourite creates pressure, but successful teams always feel the pressure.  However, I do not think we are the favourite to win this match.  Eczacibasi, which beat us in the Turkish league is a strong team.  I believe whoever wins the match is going to win the trophy as well.”

Giovanni Caprara, head coach of Eczacibasi VitrA:  Nobody should worry

“Two Italian coaches and two Turkish teams seem strange, but the important thing is that two Turkish teams will play in the Final Four.  An unfortunately early clash in the semifinals, but nobody should worry, because a Turkish team will play in the final.  Volleyball is a sport which is developing in Turkey.  In the Italian league, the teams are equally powerful and this competition affects everything positively.  Only three or four teams are very strong in Turkey and playing against the rest of them is much easier.”

Naz Aydemir Akyol, setter of VakifBank:  Eczacibasi VitrA has the advantage

“I will attend the finals for the seventh time in a row.  I am experienced, however, I know we will play a challenging match.  We have an ongoing competition with Eczacibasi VitrA.  The team, which makes fewer mistakes, will win the game.  Eczacibasi VitrA beat us twice in the Turkish league, because they have Caprara.  Therefore, Eczacibasi VitrA seems psychologically favorable.  But we came here from a tough road and beat our strong rivals.  So we are ready for the match.”

Asuman Karakoyun, setter of Eczacibasi VitrA:  The most important match of my career

“I will play the most important match of my career.  I hope we win and live the excitement of the final.  Our goal was to be the best in Europe at the beginning of the season.  Finally, we are here after three stages.  Now, each team has one chance to go to the final.  Therefore, this match will be a psychological war.  I wish the regulations allowed two Turkish teams to play the final.  Maybe we will be happy.”
