Dinamo cruise to easy win to get right edge on the way to CEV Cup finals
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Moscow, Russia, March 24, 2015. On Tuesday night Dinamo MOSCOW made a first step on their way to the final stage of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men after cruising to a speedy 3:0 win over Belgium’s Volley behappy2 ASSE-LENNIK (25-16, 25-16, 25-16). About 3,000 fans were in attendance and could celebrate a terrific performance by the home heroes who on Saturday will now play the re-match with the Belgians at Zellik.
Dinamo MOSCOW dictated the tempo of the match right from the first whistle with the home side anchored by Pavel Kruglov and Maxwell Holt who played extremely well both at attacking and serving. Holt finished the match on four aces, thereby becoming the best server of this fixture. Yury Berezhko was replaced by Alexander Markin in the second set but this did not have any impact on the quality of the performance displayed by the home team. Denis Biryukov recorded four blocks on the way to the final 25-16 which was sealed by an ace of Ivan Zaytsev. The third set followed a different plot with the score remaining tight up to 15:12 for the Muscovites. However, Dinamo changed gear after the second technical time-out and brought the match to an end with another 25-16. Maxwell Holt and Denis Biryukov top scored for Dinamo with 12 points apiece.
Questioned about what seemed an easy win for Dinamo, Ivan Zaytsev (pictured) said: “I joined the match in the second set and really wanted to play. I was ready to get involved at any time. The game was a good one for our team and almost all players got the chance to play. I think that our opponents were somehow frightened tonight. The return match in Belgium will be much more difficult for us as I am sure that they will be surrounded by a great atmosphere there. Tomorrow we will have some rest and then will travel to Belgium. We have to be ready for a totally different match, have to stay focused and play our own game.”
