SCHWERINER SC hope for another sensation in tough semifinal with BURSA BBSK
2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Schwerin, Germany, March 23, 2015. Two weeks after causing a sensation with their two straight wins over Italy’s pre-favourite Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA, Germany’s SCHWERINER SC will resume their campaign in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women playing Turkey’s BURSA BBSK in the semis. The home match is coming up on Wednesday night before the returns follows on Sunday, March 29, in Turkey.

SCHWERINER SC is the second German team that BURSA BBSK will play in the competition as the Turks edged in the previous round Rote Raben VILSBIBURG to progress to the semis. This is the first semifinal appearance for SCHWERINER SC in the European Cups since in 2007 they had made the next-to-last stage of the Top Teams Cup. Inspired by their sensational wins over NOVARA, the Germans are now determined to get more and after claiming also their second match in the quarterfinals of the Bundesliga, they had one week to prepare specifically for the home game with BURSA BBSK.

Since the start of this European adventure, this is the first time that SCHWERINER SC get to play the first match at home. This means that an eventual golden set would then be played in Turkey but at this stage the team of coach Felix Koslowski (pictured) is focused only and exclusively on a good result from the fixture on Wednesday night. After edging past pre-favourite Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA, everything seems to be possible for the young German team.

There is a lot of excitement and anticipation around the home match with BURSA BBSK as the tickets are almost sold out and following a special permission given by CEV, another 300 seats were added to the ordinary capacity of the local arena. After registering a sell-out crowd of 1,800 for the home match with NOVARA, up to 2,100 spectators will now be able to attend the game with BURSA BBSK.

The Turks are currently ranked fifth in their national league behind four giant teams from Istanbul – VakifBank, Fenerbahce, Eczacibasi and Galatasaray – and have dropped only one set – in their re-match with Rote Raben VILSBIBURG – in this year’s Challenge Cup. Now SCHWERINER SC want to cause another sensation and get the right to play the winners of the other semi between Russia’s Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG and Khimik YUZHNY of Ukraine to vie for the Challenge Cup crown.
