Galatasaray hope to come back strong in re-match with Siberian ‘Cats’
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, March 9, 2015. Turkey’s Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL will have to record a 3:0 or 3:1 home win on Tuesday night when they host Russia’s Omichka OMSK REGION in the second leg of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women Challenge Round to keep alive their hopes to make the semis of this competition. Even though the Turks played with a lot of energy, they eventually had to accept a straight-set defeat and last week got back home with zero points from their travel to Siberia’s second largest city.
“This time we must find a way to pressure their receivers,” says the young middle blocker of the home team, Ayse Melis Gürkaynak. “It is going to be even more difficult than it already was last week in Russia since we first have to win the return match and then also the golden set that would follow in order to progress to the semis.”
Home mentor Massimo Barbolini adds: “It is going to be a difficult match for at least three reasons. First of all, it is a make-or-break bout. Secondly, Omichka is one of the best teams in the extremely competitive Russian national league. And on top of it, we are going to play an opponent that deservedly took three points from the first match played last week in Russia and they are certainly not going to give in that easily.”
