Atomic Girls want to seize the night also at Ergo Arena
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Sopot, Poland, March 9, 2015. After delivering a terrific Volleyball show last week in Romania, Poland’s PGE Atom Trefl SOPOT will be hosting on Tuesday night Stiinta BACAU at the Ergo Arena in a crucial match to determine who is eventually making the semis of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

“We have done our job in the right way in Romania, so now we are confident and feel like we can fight for a positive result also when we play here at home. That was our main goal last week: to get a victory without dropping even one single point along the way. Finally we finished the game in straight sets, though there are no easy matches at this stage of the competition,” points out Izabela Belcik, PGE Atom Trefl SOPOT’s team captain and setter.

That score means that the Atomic Girls have to win ‘only’ another two sets at the Ergo Arena to get into the semis of the competition. However, it is really important to mention that Lorenzo Micelli’s team still bears in their minds the miracle they achieved in their return match with Italy’s Prosecco Doc-Imoco CONEGLIANO in the previous stage of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup. The Italian team had won the first game at home by 3:1 and was almost sure to make it to the Challenge Round via the re-match in Sopot. Nevertheless, the Atomic Girls gave their Italian opponents a real Volleyball lesson and after delivering a brilliant game they comfortably made it to the Challenge Phase.

“That’s why our attitude will be terribly important. We have to step onto the court knowing that it will be a truly hard game. We should remember that last week the Romanian team did not show the level and quality that we expected from them. Hence, we have to show our winning attitude right from the beginning and just play our best Volleyball,” explains Maja Tokarska, PGE Atom’s middle blocker.

Last week in Romania Ioana Baciu and Denisa Rogojinaru were the ones who tried to steer the Romanian team and they eventually delivered a fairly good performance. On the other side of the net, however, they found a completely ruthless Katarzyna Zaroslinska (who scored 20 points in three sets) whilst Klaudia Kaczorowska and Brittnee Cooper also performed well for SOPOT. The home mentor Lorenzo Micelli has been working very hard with each player so that he can benefit from an extended roster should this become a necessary move. On the other hand, nothing suggests that he is going to take such a big risk to line up his second lines in this clash, since the match with Stiinta BACAU is a good opportunity for his starters to get to feel the rhythm of the game as this coming weekend PGE Atom Trefl SOPOT will then contest the Final Four of the Polish national cup.
