After sensational away victory SCHWERINER SC vie for home success to move on to Challenge Cup semi-finals
2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Schwerin, Germany, March 9, 2015. After the spectacular and absolutely unexpected victory against top-favourite Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA from last week, Germany’s SCHWERINER SC ‘only’ need to take another two sets from the home match coming up on Tuesday night to book their ticket to the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup semi-finals.

SCHWERINER SC started really ambitious and used every single opportunity they were provided by their hosts who looked still tired from the national cup finals they had contested the weekend before. Being only one step away from winning the first set, the Germans ended up losing it by 24-26. With the players around head coach Felix Koslowski a little bit frustrated after missing such a chance of winning a set against the big favourites of the competition, it looked like the fans in Novara were going to celebrate a 3:0 victory for the local heroines. However, the match unfolded in a completely different way: SCHWERINER SC kept on playing at a very high level and ended up delivering their best performance so far this season. With powerful serving, classy defence actions and strong attacks they absolutely dominated the second set and won it clearly with a margin of 10 points. Inspired by this great performance they seized also the third set by 25-19. At this stage the Italian giants woke up and not willing to let the German guests win so easily they put on a real fight but eventually lost their home match in four sets.

SCHWERINER SC arrived home on late Thursday afternoon, still wondering how they had managed to achieve such a miracle and sensation. This was the second hard match for the team after they had won the return match against their national rivals DRESDNER SC, who so far had not lost any single game in the Bundesliga.

Also the citizens of Schwerin are looking forward to re-match with NOVARA. Since a few days, after the amazing victory claimed in Italy was aired on German radio NDR, the seats in the local arena are sold out even though the match will take place on a Tuesday evening. So with the loud support of their fans and with the advantage of playing the second leg at home, SCHWERINER SC are looking forward to playing another great match, hoping to celebrate another victory also at the end of their second clash with the current leaders of the Italian national league.
