Ukraine’s champions YUZHNY rout Norwegian sensation Stod Volley in Challenge Cup quarterfinals
2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women
Steinkjer, Norway, March 5, 2015. The home heroines of Stod Volley STEINKJER could not provide a crowd of about 1,500 fans with something to cheer about as on Wednesday night they lost their home match with Ukraine’s Khimik YUZHNY on schedule for the quarterfinals of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women. The visitors from Ukraine cruised past in three straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-17) as they controlled the game almost from start to end to get the right edge for the second leg coming up next week.
Though the match ended in three sets, the coach of Khimik, Sergei Holotov, said: “Stod Volley is a good team and we can expect that they will try to fight their way back next week. We do not take anything for granted despite tonight’s win and we will be preparing as carefully as possible for the re-match.”
The home heroines struggled especially in serve reception and without the necessary consistency in this fundamental it became difficult to score for the Scandinavians. “I am disappointed with our performance and with the way we played,” said the mentor of Stod Volley, André Fernando Sá. “We lacked focus and our performance did not mirror the standards we have been showing throughout this season.” His views on the match were shared by two of the key players on the roster of Stod Volley, Arjola Prenga and Clarisse Benicio Peixoto.
