Broendby, Denmark, March 5, 2015. The Danish National Olympic Committee has appointed Peter Kildegaard & Kristoffer Abell to represent the country in the beach volleyball tournament of the first ever European Games in Baku.
Last year Peter Kildegaard and Kristoffer Abell were voted Player and Rising Star of the Year, respectively, by their colleagues on the Danish Beachvolley Tour. Now the new beach volleyball constellation is going to test its skills against Europe’s finest in the European Games starting in 99 days.
Peter Kildegaard qualified for Baku 2015 together with Martin Olesen, but this year Kildegaard will team up with Kristoffer Abell. The Danish team has trained intensively during the winter to get prepared in the best way possible for the European Games.
”I am truly happy that Denmark is represented by two of our very best beach volleyball players at the European Games. The fact that Denmark is among the 32 countries playing in Baku confirms that Danish beach volleyball keeps getting stronger and stronger,” says Lars Mayland, Beach Volleyball Elite Director at the Danish Volleyball Federation.
Last year Peter Kildegaard was voted Player of the Year on the Danish Beachvolley Tour, where he also won several tournaments. He and Olesen also won against Latvia’s star Aleksandrs Samoilovs, one of the top players on the FIVB World Tour, and his partner Toms Smedins, at the Doha Open in November.
Kristoffer Abell was voted Rising Star on the Danish Beachvolley Tour. He had several strong performances and podium placements. Abell also trained on the beach in Rio de Janeiro last year.
