Italian Butterflies fully focused on upcoming re-match with Azeryol
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Busto Arsizio, Italy, February 17, 2015. After scoring a 3:1 away victory in Azerbaijan last week, Italy’s Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO got one step closer on their way to the Playoffs 6 of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. This means that on Wednesday, once they host the re-match with Azeryol BAKU, they will have to win ‘only’ two sets to secure their promotion to the next round. This would be the best result for Italian teams in Europe’s elite competition in two years after last season they all missed out on that feat and two years ago BUSTO ARSIZIO claimed a historic bronze medal at the Final Four tournament held in Istanbul.
Team captain Francesca Marcon and her friends will nevertheless have to fight hard to take these two sets and avoid the scenario of a golden set which would turn into reality if they lose their home match with Azeryol by 0:3 or 3:1. The team from Azerbaijan’s capital dismissed head coach Aleksandr Chervyakov shortly after last week’s home loss but still counts on some world-class players such as Jovana Brakocevic Canzian, Jelena Nikolic, Odina Bayramova (Aliyeva) and Strashimira Filipova who are capable of turning the tide for their side.
After claiming their last match in Italy’s national league with Pomi CASALMAGGIORE, Unendo Yamamay had a short rest on Sunday and resumed their preparations on Monday with two training sessions. More than 1,500 tickets have already been sold for the match with Azeryol and the local fans are expected to turn up in large numbers. “The match coming up on Wednesday is one of the most difficult ones we have had to play this season,” says head coach Carlo Parisi. “Even though we won last week, we have to keep in mind the value and strength of Azeryol, so even though we only need to get two sets, we have to step onto the court with our only goal being a clear victory.”
Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO have created a special Facebook page for the match and are promoting it on social media with the hashtag #UYBABaku.
