Resovia one step away from making Playoffs 6
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men
Rzeszow, Poland, February 16, 2015. After their 3:2 away victory from last week in Germany, Asseco Resovia RZESZOW of Poland will be trying to make the last step towards their qualification for the Playoffs 6 of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men on Wednesday, February 18, when they host Germany’s VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN for the second leg of the Playoffs 12 and the ‘Match of the Week’.
If the Germans want to stay in the race for the next round of the competition, they have to score an away victory, and a 3:2 would call for the golden set. As for Resovia, a second victory – regardless of the final score line – will pave their way to the Playoffs 6. The first match played last week on the shores of the Lake of Constance was very exciting and the re-match is most probably going to be just as tense.
In the meantime, both teams continued their campaign in their respective national leagues with VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN cementing their position on top of the standings in the Bundesliga with a 3:1 home victory at ZF Arena over TV ROTTENBURG. As for Resovia, they are fighting for the top spot of the charts before the start of the Playoffs in the PlusLiga and everything will be decided by the last match of the regular season with PGE Skra BELCHATOW. Waiting for that showdown, last weekend Resovia continued their positive streak with a 3:0 to rout AZS CZESTOCHOWA. “I am glad that we could win in three sets because we will be playing a very important match on Wednesday. I think it is going to be even harder than the game we played last week in Germany,” says Resovia’s head coach Andrzej Kowal.
Piotr Nowakowski, who was selected for the ‘Dream Team of the Week’ after the first leg of the Playoffs 12, was not that happy with his team’s performance in Germany: “This was not our best game and there is no reason to search for excuses because we simply played below our standards. It was a tough fight, and we were tired, and so this away victory over a difficult rival is nevertheless extremely important.”
