TOURS VB end 2015 European campaign with first victory
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Tours, France, January 27, 2015. Even though they were both already eliminated from this year’s European Cups, France’s TOURS VB and Belgium’s Noliko MAASEIK played their last match in the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men very determined to avoid finishing last in Pool G. The hosts of TOURS VB eventually cruised to a 3:0 home victory (25-15, 26-24, 25-20) to avenge the 2:3 loss they had suffered in Belgium at the very beginning of the season.
Though all chances even to move on to the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup were already gone, the home heroes of TOURS VB desperately wanted to bid farewell to the competition by cashing the first victory of their 2015 campaign. Even though TOURS VB was missing their US middle blocker David Smith who was replaced by young, rising star Lucas Aguenier, TOURS VB and Noliko substantially opted for their usual starting six for their last European match of the season. Once again the home side was able to count on their always excellent opposite David Konecny who finished the game on 25 points whilst setter Nuno Pinheiro showed glimpses of his class by orchestrating his attackers in a perfect way. The players of TOURS VB showed a very good performance in all fundamentals and this way got the right boost for the remainder of their domestic season.
“It was a good match,” said TOURS VB head coach Mauricio Paes. “The League Round has come to a close and I am happy that we ended this campaign on a high note. I hope we have finally given to our audience the kind of show that they deserve for their always loyal and passionate support.”
