Last home match has no impact on final standings for Russian Lions
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Belgorod, Russia, January 26, 2015. On Tuesday last year’s gold medallists Belogorie BELGOROD of Russia will finish the Preliminary Round of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League in Pool E with a home match against France’s PARIS Volley.
Last week in Istanbul the winning streak of the Lions was broken by Ivan Miljkovic and his teammates from Fenerbahce SK. ISTANBUL. Belogorie had already secured first place in the pool even before the away match with Fenerbahce and for that reason the Russians could rest some of their starting players, namely Taras Khtey, Sergey Tetyukhin and Dmitriy Muserskiy.
The upcoming match with PARIS Volley will have no impact on the final standings of Pool E, at least as far as these teams are concerned. PARIS Volley have won only one of their five matches so far and therefore even third place seems to be out of reach for the Frenchmen, whilst regardless of the outcome on Tuesday night Belogorie BELGOROD will anyway make the Playoffs as the first placed team from Pool E. Still, as Russian mentor Gennady Shipulin says, “my team will try to win in front of the home crowd. But we also have to keep in mind the matches that lie ahead. We have a very tough schedule and we need to divide our energy efficiently. This will be very important for us in the decisive matches we will be playing in the Playoff round.”
