Two sets enough for TRENTINO to squeeze into CEV Cup Challenge Round
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Trento, Italy, January 22, 2015. Italy’s Energy T.I. Diatec TRENTINO needed to win another two sets in the return match against Romania’s SCM U CRAIOVA to join Dinamo MOSCOW, Belgium’s Volley behappy2 ASSE-LENNIK and Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE in the Challenge Round of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. The hosts stormed to a 3:1 home victory (25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 25-15) as they were anchored by their Bulgarian-born captain Matey Kaziyski, who tonight celebrated 300 caps with the shirt of TRENTINO by scoring 14 points (including four aces).
Everything went quite easy for the Italians who closed the first section of the game with the score of 25-15. The start of the second set was close, but then TRENTINO set the tempo of the game and sealed the set by 25-16. With this TRENTINO had accomplished their mission to qualify to the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup as they had won the previous match up last week in Romania by 3:0. In the third set their head coach Radostin Stoytchev took the opportunity to give a rest to some players of the starting six and the actions resumed with Michele Fedrizzi, Gabriele Nelli, Tiziano Mazzone and Sebastian Solé all joining the game. TRENTINO slowed down a bit, making mistakes in reception and attack; the Romanians, on the other hand, showed great resistance, surprised the home side and eventually won the third set (20-25). In the fourth Matteo Burgsthaler and his mates were back to their usual tempo and cruised to a speedy 25-15, showing a very high-level performance especially in serving, recording a total of 10 aces throughout the match.
The middle blocker of TRENTINO Matteo Burgsthaler was named MVP of the match with 86% of efficiency in attack (he chartered 10 points including four blocks). On the other side of the net Vlado Milev scored 13 (53% of efficiency) and was the key player in the third set which was won by CRAIOVA.
“We are satisfied with this victory and our qualification to the Challenge Round: it was the most important thing and after the second set I gave to some young and talented players the opportunity to play. Although we lost the third set, it was very important to let the players on the court also in the fourth, to show that we do trust them and we wanted to give them a chance to overcome their difficulties,” stated home mentor Radostin Stoytchev after the match.
